Self Defense Techniques
Elbows: You can use your elbows forward or reverse. To assist an elbow strike, simply make a fist with the same hand as elbow and grasp the fist with your other hand. This is really effective if someone is against your back, perhaps crowding or trapping you or preparing to grab around your waist. Once the waist grab is completed though an elbow strike is no longer the technique of choice. Use your entire torso to throw your elbow. Twist at the waist and pivot your shoulders as you strike with your elbow. Throw your elbow back and up if your attacker is your same height or smaller, to connect with the head/face/throat. Throw it straight back if the attacker is taller to connect with the ribs/stomach.
Foot: Use your feet to kick your attacker. Keep the kicking down low. Kicking to the front or sides of the knees will disable the attacker. You can also kick in the groin area. Horse kicking to the rear can be effective too, but keep in mind the attacker could grab your leg.
Hands: A tightly rolled fist or a palm thrust to the face, nose or throat can be effective. Also, fingers can gouge eyes, pull ears and hair and twist pinky fingers.
Pressure Points: Pressure points are extremely sensitive to pain or injury. Examples include the groin, windpipe, the nose and your shin. A quick blow to any of these areas will disable the attacker for a moment to allow you to escape.
The weapons to strike out at an offender can be spelt out with a simple acronym – S.K.Y (formed by the first letters of each of the weapon names).
S: Stab (finger stab formed by bending the fingers)
K: Knee (step forward and raise your knee cap to strike)
Y: Y-hand (join four fingers and open the thumb in Y-formation)
The targets (vulnerable points) where the offender should be struck, can be remembered with the simple acronym G.E.T (formed by the first letters of each of the target names):
G: Groin
E: Eyes
T: Throat
Knees, Finger stabs and Y-hands are used to strike the groin, eyes and throat respectively. While striking the attacker, you should use your other arm as your protective shield. A good way to distract your attacker making it easier for you to strike him or throw him down is by shouting out at and pointing to an imaginary person. (Ex: Call out ‘police’ or ‘excuse me’ even if there’s nobody there.) When your attacker looks in the direction of the imaginary person, even for a moment, strike him and throw him down. You may also push your attacker against the wall which will hurt him. Other than these you may also use biting, pinching, throwing and spitting on the face which serve as primary weapons of distraction. Weapons of opportunity include your watch, lipstick, pen, hairbrush, stones and mud. If you think someone is following you, cross the road and then go back in the opposite direction. If he is still coming after you then you may be sure that he has bad intentions.

Kicks Low Kicks in Street Self Defense : Use your feet to kick your attacker. Keep the kicking down low. Kicking to the front or sides of the knees will disable the attacker. You can also kick in the groin area. Horse kicking to the rear can be effective too, but keep in mind the attacker could grab your leg.
